RTP2 is the next television station of Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, the Portuguese public broadcasting company. Commonly called the "Second" (O Segundo), also for some time rebranded as "Dois" (Portuguese for 2), this state-run television station began its regular broadcasting on December 25, 1968. These days, RTP2 is a public-service, advertising-free station that functions as an alternate to RTP's most important station, RTP1. RTP2 is the sole of many European and Portuguese national/international stations which has a rigorous cultural and educational programming (like Arte). RTP2 is the sole broadcaster out of Portugal that broadcasts programming with no interruptions, advertising fractures or inline messaging. Together with sister station RTP1, it turned into a 24-hour agency in 2002.
